Alecia Chakour details Chakourah’s new EP ‘lotusland’, shares single

Alecia Chakour, singer of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, under the Chakoura pen name announced lotus land, a new EP to be released via Manat’s garden October 29. Alecia today released the first single from the six-song set, “West St.”
lotus land is a family affair co-produced and featuring the musical contributions of his brother, multi-instrumentalist Alex Chakour (Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Brittany Howard), while their father, Mitch chakour, appears on the piano. The siblings are joined by a group on the EP which also includes the drummer Homer steinwess and guitarist Sam cohen. Cochemea Gastelum (saxophone and flute) and Jared samuel contribute to lotus land also.
The 22-minute EP is described in a press release as “equal parts psychedelic folk and pre-soul” influenced by influences as disparate as Marc Bolan, Junie Morrison, Fairuz and the Muppets. Alecia wrote the material on lotus land, co-produced the EP and is the singer. lotus land marks Alecia’s first completed solo project in over a decade and is expected to be followed by other new music.
“West Street”. takes its title from a street in the Alecia district according to the American songwriter, who created the single. “Maybe no matter how much you love each other, you realize they need to live underwater and you need to be on land,” Chakour explained to American Songwriter of the romantic story described. in the song. “It really is that simple, but heartbreaking, as that. I loved ending the song with Sam Cohen’s guitar solo. I wanted it to look like a duet.
