Central Texas father-daughter dance duo featured in fan clip for hit song
WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A daddy-daughter dance duo from central Texas landed in the music video for a hit song that burns radio, TikTok and a new TV commercial from Applebee.
China Spring’s Chris Gerick and his daughter, Caitlyn, 13, a student at China Spring Junior High, appear in the fan version of Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like” video, a song that topped the Billboard Country Digital Download charts.
The catchy melody exploded, in part because of the dancing that accompanies it.
“I thought it was pretty cool because I didn’t really expect the video to really be accepted and make the fans’ YouTube video, so I thought it was a good deal,” said Chris.
Chris and his daughter began posting TikTok dances they performed together in their forties in order to pass the time and bond.
“I like to have fun with it,” he says. “I’m one of them. If I go to a wedding, I’m going to go out and let it go. I have never shied away from trying to have a good time, especially with the kids.
The dancing duo had no idea their friends and family would enjoy the videos so much. When the Fancy Like dance started to explode, they decided to get down to business.
“I thought it was cool because when my mom brought up the idea of TikTok I was like ‘oh yeah’ and it took us about a week and a half to teach her how to dance and so I was like “well it’s better to pay” and he did it, ”Caitlyn said.
They recorded the video outside of their RV on a road trip in Tennessee, but the landing in the clip was by accident.
When Chris went to upload the dance to his personal page, Facebook warned him that he did not have the rights to the song, so Chris went to Walker Hayes’ website to try and find a place to get the song. permission.
It was then that he discovered the open call for fan videos.
“I uploaded the video to their link that they had where you could submit their video and didn’t give it much thought,” Chris said. “But a few weeks later, I was able to email someone in their marketing group.”
Dressed in matching flag shirts, Chris and Caitlyn made the cut and appeared at 1:45 am of the video.
Caitlyn says “Fancy Like” isn’t the end of their TikTok careers together. They plan to learn even more choreographed dance moves even though its subject isn’t always the easiest to teach.
“No,” she laughs when asked if he learns easily.
“I’m having a hard time going through all of the steps,” Chris added.
“We’re going through eight counts,” Caitlyn replied.
“I don’t know what eight counts mean,” Chris said with a laugh.
“But I think they’re fun to look back on,” Caitlyn said. “And my friends all think he’s so cool.”
“Yeah, I think I’m fine for a middle aged dad,” Chris said.
