Alongside fellow artists Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson, Jack White has been cast in Martin Scorsese’s next film The Moonflower Slayers and will star alongside Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons and more.
The film features four musicians, who “don’t play music” in their roles, according to Scorsese and Wes Anderson’s music supervisor and longtime collaborator, Randall Poster, when first asked what the Isbell’s role in the film and whether he would star. .
“Yeah, he’s great in it,” Poster said. “Jason Isbell, Jack White…there are like four musicians in the movie who don’t play music.”
The Moonflower Slayers is based on David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name, which investigates a series of murders in the Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma after oil is discovered beneath their tribal lands.
This isn’t White’s first time on the big screen. In addition to appearing in the 2008 documentary It Might Get Loud, White also starred in Jim Jarmusch’s 2003 vignette-filled film Coffee & Cigarettes, also starring former White Stripes bandmate Meg White. He also appeared in the period war drama directed by Anthony Minghella cold mountain (2003), and also played Elvis Presley in Jake Kasdan’s Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story in 2007.
