NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Judds, one of 1980s country music’s most successful duos, are reuniting to perform at the CMT Music Awards, their first major awards show together in more than two decades.

Naomi and Wynonna’s mother-daughter duo will perform their hit “Love Will Build a Bridge” at the awards show on April 11, which airs on CBS and Paramount+, during an outdoor shoot outside Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

It’s a fitting backdrop for the five-time Grammy winners, who will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in May.

“It’s both surreal and what a thrill it is. What a thrill to finally bring her back to the stage, because she’s been waiting for over 20 years,” Wynonna told the AP of her mother, Naomi. as a girl and as an artist, it’s a win-win.”

Originally from Kentucky, Naomi was working as a nurse in the Nashville area when she and Wynonna started singing together professionally. Their unique harmonies, combined with elements of acoustic, bluegrass and blues music, set them apart in the genre at the time.

The Judds have won nine Country Music Association and seven Academy of Country Music awards and had more than a dozen No. 1 hits, including “Mama, He’s Crazy” and “Grandpa (Tell Me’boutthe Good Old Days)”.

In 1990, Naomi Judd announced her retirement from performing due to chronic hepatitis. Wynonna continued her solo career and they occasionally got together for special performances.

“Having all the amazing opportunities I’ve had, remembering all of that, makes me very humbled and I just want to enjoy the moment,” Naomi Judd told the AP.

This is also their first-ever performance together at the CMT Music Awards. Country star Kacey Musgraves will introduce the pair ahead of the show.

“Music is the bridge between mom and me, and it unites us. Even in difficult times,” Wynonna Judd said. “We show up and sing because that’s love, isn’t it? So what a great party.

Hosted by country singer Kelsea Ballerini and actor Anthony Mackie, the fan-voted awards show will also feature Ballerini, Kane Brown, Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Cody Johnson, Little Big Town, Keith Urban and Carly Pearce.
