Kanye West performs at Rolling Loud Fest, days after canceling headliner
Just four days after canceling his headlining performance at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami on July 22, Kanye West still showed up and performed with Lil Durk.
Wearing a pair of sunglasses covering his eyes and black face paint, West surprised the audience when he took the stage to perform “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” from his 2016 Pablo’s life album with Durk.
Coincidentally, Kid Cudi, who walked into West’s slot at Rolling Loud after it was canceled, was also performing the same day West surprised festival-goers. Cudi ended up storming the stage 30 minutes into his set after audience members began throwing bottles and other objects at him. Around the time Cudi finished his set, West continued with Lil Durk.
Although the two have been friends and collaborators, they recently had a falling out. Cudi said he refused to work with Ye again and added, “I’m not cool with this man.” There is speculation that West chose to perform “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” to sting Cudi, who is featured on the album version of the song.
On July 18, West pulled out of his headlining appearance at Rolling Loud, days before he was due to perform. “We have been looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022,” Rolling Loud co-founders Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingle said in a statement, also mentioning Kid Cudi as his replacement. “We spent months working with him and his team on performance. Unfortunately, Ye decided he wouldn’t perform anymore. This is the first time a headliner has made it on our show and while we don’t take it lightly, we wish them the best.
Earlier this year, West also pulled out of his Coachella headlining spot for personal reasons.
